Brochure-M.Sc
Introduction and Course Objectives
The M.Sc. (Industrial Hygiene and Safety) course is being introduced in response to the growing awareness among industries for the need to employ qualified professionals to assess and manage work-related health risks. Being a distance-learning programme, the course is primarily aimed at providing an opportunity to expand the knowledge of practitioners who are already involved with the practice of industrial hygiene and safety. Students will be given comprehensive training in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of work-related hazards that may cause injury, disease, or discomfort to workers.
The programme structure requires not more than three weeks of attendance at the Deemed University per semester. However, students are expected to work a substantial amount of time at home or at their workplace.
Commencement and Duration
The course has been designed as a three-year programme that ordinarily commences from June 2nd Week of every year. In order to allow students to study at their own pace and in their own time, the programme can be completed within a period of up to seven years.

    Course Elements Top
The course comprises the following elements:
    Lectures
The lectures provide a state-of-the-art introduction to topics relevant to industrial hygiene and safety.
    Colloquia
Colloquia provide the opportunity to discuss questions and present results. Colloquia are an integral part of the contact sessions.
    Practical Training
Practical training in the use of industrial hygiene sampling equipment as well as personal protective equipment will be administered during the contact sessions of the laboratory courses.
    Home Assignments
Students will have to work through textbooks, handouts and other provided materials on their own. Home assignments will be discussed during colloquia as well as in tutorials. The faculty will monitor the learning progress by internal assessments.
    Tutorials
The students will have to organize themselves into groups of about five members. These groups should meet at least once a month to discuss current course topics. The groups will be provided with assignments and questions for discussions. The groups have to take minutes of the meetings, which will be presented to the faculty staff for marks.
    Educational Visits
Factory visits will be used to deepen the knowledge and understanding of occupational health and safety issues in industries. Students should participate in at least one factory visit each semester between the 2nd and 5th semester.
    Project Work

Students are expected to submit two project reports at the end of the 4th and the 6th semesters respectively. During these projects students should do work autonomously in the industry, i.e. tackle a practical problem in the field of industrial hygiene and safety.
